The unique design and engineering of PLAE shoes and tabs (straps) allow for accommodation of many orthotics and AFOs. A wider shoe opening allows for easy entry. The insoles can be removed and a wider toe box gives you that extra needed space. The interchangeable tabs (velcro straps) come in different lengths including extra long to allow for a custom fit.
We have a growing community on Facebook called "PLAE with Orthotics" which is dedicated to sharing stories and photos, and learning about how PLAE shoes may work with your child’s orthotic device. We know shoe options can be limited, and we receive all kinds of questions related to AFOs, SMOs and other orthosis – so this group was started as central place for answers to be shared and photos to help inspire. We encourage you to join and ask the community what has worked well for them.
We have found the ty sneakers with mesh to have most success for an orthotic fit because they have a more flexible mesh material, but many other styles work as well. We always recommend purchasing a XL length set of tabs and removing the insole for the best fit.

I know! It is a question we are working to answer on a daily basis and figure it is time we share a bit of what all has been going on (behind the scenes) here at PLAE.
OCTOBER 2021:
A bit of good news - Our factory in Vietnam has just received permission to slowly start open up! Having been closed for over 2 months (due to a regional COVID lockdown), it will likely take several weeks to be fully up to speed and caught-up on the backlog of our orders, but there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. We'll keep everyone posted as we receive updates.
INCOMING we were able to rush in a limited supply of Ty favorites, expected before the end of the month (along with more adult options!) These had been completed but could not leave the factory before the lockdown.
SEPTEMBER 2021:
We are incredibly thankful for the community support that we have received as we work to keep PLAE fully stocked with shoes. We are thrilled that many of you have found what you are looking for as our factory shipments arrive, but it has been an incredibly challenging time to keep inventory available. Most recently as we try to make sure that we were prepared for an important Back to School season - it is the first time in over a year that some of our kids have been in a classroom.
At the start of 2021 we had just received a factory order that was meant to be delivered months earlier in October. We were fortunate enough to avoid material shortages, and even sourced a shipping container without too much delay but that container ended up sitting in the "Parking lot in the Pacific" along with other container ships waiting to be unloaded in jammed shipping ports. What was typically a predictable 12-day ocean trip before COVID-19 had turned into an unprecedented months-long waiting game as we have seen repeatedly this year. As these freight delays continue, we recently sped things up by using some clever routing and calling in favors with industry connections (and completely blowing up our freight budget a few times) to receive a container in record time in early August. Things were looking up as we prepared for 2 more containers to leave on our new "express route", just as COVID-19 spiked in Vietnam where our shoes are manufactured.
As a part of a nationwide lockdown to help quell the outbreak currently plaguing the country, our factory has been closed for the past several weeks and expects to remain so for several more. We applaud our factory partner in their commitment to pay all employees during this time.

Our outsole is made with a blend of new and recycled synthetic rubbers. We do not use latex as a component in any of our products, and have many happy customers wearing our shoes that have expressed the desire for a latex free product.
This said, allergies are a tricky thing to trace back to one product component and while we have not received any feedback of it happening with our shoes, reactions can still happen. Some folks have reported related allergies to other rubber products like Neoprene (used in our Chloe and Thandi shoes), which do not contain latex. Unrelated to our shoes, but we have heard of some people being so sensitive that even latex-free products produced in the same factories as latex products can cause a reaction.
You will also find latex free rubber products in our removable insoles; the recycled cork EVA heal cup (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) and the Eco-Ortholite polyurethane with 20% natural bio based oil (non-latex) source are both expanded foam rubber products. We even use water-based glues in our shoes and insoles so no latex there either.
We understand the need to investigate and recommendation that you follow any medical advice that has been provided when trying new products. Please feel free to test our shoes by wearing them indoors on carpet, as we are happy to take them back if they are in new condition should you find that they indicate to cause a reaction.
Some folks prefer the minimalist, barefoot feel and a zero-drop sole. Both our kid and adult shoes shoes with a removable insole are zero-drop with the insert removed. Our shoes are completely lined on the inside and designed to be worn with or without the insole in place. The insole adds a few mm lift to the heal (depending on size) to help create a natural and comfortable arch support.
In keeping with responsible practices and respect for our environment, we try to be as eco-conscious as we can at PLAE. To help reduce our carbon footprint, we make every effort to source eco-centric components for our products and packaging.

Plae.co relaunched as a completely new site in July 2020. It has always been important for us to restore the PLAE Rewards system for our community to use in exchange for a discount as used before the previous site closed earlier in 2020. Points balances were migrated as it existed at a certain point in time before the previous site closed. We have made every effort to restore points as accurately as possible. It is possible that your current balance changed after this snapshot, up or down. We don't have access to information beyond this snapshot and have to use this as the only source of customer's points balances.

- Ensure that your current plae.co account email address matches the email address you previously used.
- Collect any evidence to your points balance so that we can research your balance and try to find a way to resolve the mismatch.
