Community Recommendations
"During my multiple internet searches, I saw Plae shoes recommended several times…We walked in, got fitted, tried on a pair of Emme's, and got some longer tabs in a matter of 15 minutes!…The Emme's large opening makes them so easy to get on my wiggly toddler!"

"Finally a shoe for our special kids that is not only functional and lightweight, but so stylish. She loves expressing her own style! Thanks Plae!"
- Melissa E
"We were so pleased to find a lightweight spring/summer shoe that is compatible with SMO's ! The Mimo is super easy to slip on and off, and breathable (a huge plus for a kiddo wearing braces all summer)."
- Kelcy W
"They have held up better than most brands to the extra wear and tear of the SMO braces, even through a couple of washes. We both love that they open wide to slip on easily and look cool for play but also dress up well!"

What size should I order to fit over braces?
We recommend sizing up one whole size to accommodate braces, and choosing a style with a wide tongue opening like Ty, Leo, Max or Larkin. If you need even more room, try removing the insoles from the shoes. (Don't worry, all PLAE shoes are made to wear with the insoles in or out!)
What is the best style to fit over braces?
The easiest style of shoes to fit over a brace will be ones with a wide tongue opening and mesh uppers, like Leo or Max. These styles have extra give, so they'll be easy on and off. For adults, Larkin works great over braces!
Do all adaptive shoes come with an XL tab or do you need to buy them separately?
Most our our adaptive-friendly shoes come with tabs, but some use laces! If you are accommodating a brace, we recommend that you purchase a separate set of XL tabs as the tabs that come standard with PLAE shoes will fit the average foot for that size, and likely will not accommodate braces.
What is the best seasonal style for an AFO?
Members of our Facebook community recommend Mimo and Wes. The key features to consider for an AFO are adjustability and wide openings, like you'll find with Mimo, Sam and Larkin in all colors.
I'm going to need two different shoe sizes. What should I do?
For people who only use one brace, or for any other reason need two different sizes of shoes, please contact our customer care team. Through your local Nordstrom store, you may be able to purchase a single pair of shoes in two different sizes; contact your local store for details.
