Enjoy the ride. Being Human is messy. It’s awkward. It can be as hard as it is beautiful. I’ve noticed that it can be easy to get caught up with outside expectations that have been internalized, all the ‘shoulds’ floating around my inner dialogue (I should look a certain way, I should be a certain kind of Mom, I should keep up with what other families are doing etc). Here’s a lesson I’ve been sitting with: Don’t value achievement more than fulfillment. When we assign value to the journey, to the bumps in the road as well as the smell of roses, we give ourselves permission to really appreciate and enjoy life. When we let go, we let in joy. When we slow down, we can be more intentional with how we think, react and approach our world. This time of year can be a little crazy, so much frenzied shopping, posting holiday photos of the perfectly decorated room, so many expectations. Woosa. For anyone who needs to hear this, slow down. Breathe. Look around you. See where you are right now, at this moment in your life. What are your priorities right now? Anything you’ve been holding onto that you actually want to let go? It’s ok to not be perfect. In fact, being human requires it. So slow down. Take in this time of your life.
